Thai Stretching/Massage

In 2008, I had the privilege of spending 5 weeks in Thailand studying their culture, food, and most importantly Thai massage and reflexology. I studied Thai Massage and reflexology at the Thai Massage School of Chiang Mai.

What is Thai Stretching/Massage?
In Thai stretching/massage, the practitioner will place your body in yoga like stretches that will release tension in the body. To deepen the stretches the therapist uses Thai massage techniques such as muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure. It is both relaxing and energizing at the same time.

What is different about Thai Stretching/Massage?
Thai stretching/massage is performed on a padded mat on the floor. Unlike table massage, the person receiving the massage remains fully clothed and no cream or oil is used. Clients are asked to wear light weight, loose fitting pants and a tee shirt that will allow movement. You should not eat a big meal just before receiving a session.

What are the benefits of Thai Stretching/Massage?
The benefits of Thai stretching/massage are similar to that of traditional massage. It relaxes muscles, reduces stress and improves circulation. It also helps improve energy flow, tones internal organs and increases flexibility and range of motion. Studies have shown that increased flexibility helps improves posture and reduce lower back pain.

How long does a Thai Stretching/Massage take?
A session can range from 30 minutes to 90 minutes in length. I have designed 30 minute protocols to focus on specific areas of the body, such as, the neck, shoulders and back or the lower back and legs. The 60 minute and longer massages are full body sessions. They both utilize many types of muscle compression and stretching in yoga like poses to release tension, improve muscle flexibility and range of motion.

Thai Stretching/Massage and Your Lifestyle.
Thai stretching/massage is the perfect complement to any lifestyle. There are many benefits to increased flexibility. First it allows you move better enjoying your activity more. Second, flexibility increases your muscle coordination allowing them to perform together more efficiently. Third, you reduce the risk of injury because stretching promotes muscle relaxation, which results in less accumulated toxins, less muscle shortening, and less fatigue. It doesn't matter what sport or activity you like to do, a protocol can be designed to help keep you moving your best.
